Nokia N81 is packed in a retail box splashed with raucous crowd in concert. Even the user manual features musicians. You would think that this newest addition to the Nokia line of mobile phones is specifically dedicated to the new generation who favors rock. But far from it, the shiny black casing is very classy and elegant looking. Although the device is not sexy, in fact it is a bit on the chubby side; still the user can easily hold an N81.
The navigation keys seem to show that N81 is really a music- focused mobile phone. Call buttons are pushed on the side and the music player button is prominent on the center. Also the volume button is pretty large on the side and can be accessed without really looking.
Audio of this mobile phone is pretty clear thanks to an external speaker on the side. The sound could be distracting but the user has an option to use a headset. A 3.5 mm headphone jack is on top of the device. A user can keep the phone on the pocket and at the same time listen to the favorite tunes.
N81's music player is something to rave about. Definitely the preset equalizer is very useful but what is grander is the navi-wheel option where the user can easily sift through the music menu by using the Intelligent Search option. Nokia has preloaded this device with three demo games. Mobile game buffs out there would find these games very addictive. The 2.4 inch screen is perfect for watching videos although a wider screen would be most suitable to play mobile games.
As a mobile phone, nothing much is to be desired from Nokia N81. The S60 Symbian operating system provides an efficient platform for multi tasking and what is not preloaded can most certainly be downloaded. As a whole, Nokia N81 is a notable device and would interest people with penchant in high-end mobile phones.
